OUR POLICIES & FORMS
It is essential that we maintain and follow documented policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of your child. If you would like to discuss any aspect of our policies please don't hesitate to get in touch. Please note these policies are subject to change.
Communication & Consultation
We value good working relationships and open communication with parents and whanau. Parents and whanau are part of our centre, and should have input into what happens for their child at Leap Ahead Childcare Centre.

Emergency Closure
At Leap Ahead Early Childhood Centre, we endeavour to be open as stated in our enrollment packs, without disruptions. Where disruption is unavoidable, all involved in the pre-‐school are kept informed and we reopen at the earliest possible opportunity. Download a copy of our Emergency Closure policy.
Immunisation Policy
It is a government regulation that requires Leap Ahead Early Childhood Centre to hold accurate immunisation records of all children on our roll. Download a copy of our Immunisation policy.
Excursions Policy
We recognise the importance of providing a variety of experiences. Planned or spontaneous excursions stimulate children’s understanding and awareness of our community. It is essential that these excursions are planned for and carried out in a manner that promotes safety for any teachers and children involved.

Health Policy & Procedure for Sick Children
Sickness and illness among children and adults within an Early Childhood environment is a common occurrence. Children who show signs of sickness or infection will need to be excluded from the centre to ensure there is no further potential for spread of infection to others. We endeavour to keep all children, staff, and whānau safe from infection by clearly explaining under what circumstance a child should be excluded. Sun Smart Policy
It is a scary fact that New Zealand has one of the highest incidences of skin cancer in the world. Therefore Leap Ahead supports and fosters the Cancer Society’s message of “Slip, Slop, Slap, and Wrap”. As adults we model this important message whilst ensuring that being Sun Smart becomes a natural part of everyone’s everyday routine. Download a copy of our Sun Smart policy
Nutrition & Healthy Eating Policy
Children’s early years are an essential time to help them establish healthy eating habits. At Leap Ahead Early Childhood Centre we believe in the importance of healthy eating for children and their families. Staff aim to promote, encourage and support nutritional eating habits for all children attending Leap Ahead. Eating experiences provided for children will focus on enjoyment, participation and encouragement of positive healthy eating habits. Download a copy of our Nutrition & Healthy Eating policy.

Philosophy
We recognise that the first five years of a Child’s life lay the foundation for future learning.
Early Education contributes to the growth of capable and confident children, who can
communicate, learn, and work with others. Leap Ahead is a special place in the community,
that is safe, secure, and stimulating, where children can learn through play.

Portfolios are an invaluable tool to track the learning of your children. However, with your busy lives, you are
often rushed to read and hear about your child’s day. Online E-Portfolios allow you to access your child’s
portfolio from your home or work computer at any time. You are able to make comments, read learning stories
and newsletters, and share this information with other family members you have given authorized access to.
